These are one of the most impressive species of stick insect. When adult they are very large and robust, young nymphs are robust too and don't lose legs easily like many stick insects do.

I am currently feeding these on bramble which they do very well on, but they will also eat Oak, Hazel and Raspberry in the summer which is a bit easier on the fingers.

Females are fine to handle but care does need to be taken when handling the males because when adult, the males have large spines on their powerful back legs which they are well able to use to defend themselves.

Keep stick insects in a tall, well ventilated net.

It’s a good idea to put a tray or a liner inside the bottom of the net to catch any debris and enable easier cleaning of the cage.

Keep the leaves fresh by spraying them daily with water. This also helps to prevent the stick insects from dehydrating.

Stick insects should be kept at room temperature and away from direct sunlight.
